Monday Morning Update

Posted: Updated:

The upper air pattern has yet to change significantly and we'll continue to experience periodic frontal passages across the state this week.    We have a boundary moving across the area later today but no precipitation will occur.  The winds will change from the south to the north and increase speeds during the midday to afternoon hours.  The fire danger will continue to be a concern but environmental conditions will be slightly improved regarding humidity and temperature this afternoon.  Red Flag warning criteria will not be met today but you are encouraged to refrain from activities that may lead to wild fire growth.

Temps will top out in the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon along with gusty north winds.  The colder air mass will settle into the region later tonight allowing Tuesday morning lows in the lower 20s with highs only in the 30s tomorrow afternoon.

The pattern would support a quick return to south winds Wednesday morning before a much colder air mass arrives either Wednesday midday into the evening hours.   This means Wednesdays highs will be in the upper 40s near 50s before the shallow cold air mass will lower our daytime highs  back into the lower 30s Thursday afternoon or even some upper 20s.  Temps Friday morning should start in the middle or upper teens and finish in the upper 30s.

The southern stream may become active by the middle of the week with a storm system moving across Texas Wednesday night into Thursday with rain and thunderstorm activity to our south.  We'll need to monitor the positioning of the system closely.  Any change northward with the track would bring some light wintry precip into the southern third of the state.  At this point model data would keep precip well south of our immediate areas of concern and no precipitation will be included in our 7 day planner.

In summary:  A roller coaster ride will remain.  Highs today in the 60s, Tuesday in the 30s.  Wednesday back near 50 and Thursday in the upper 20s or lower 30s.  We'll move back into the 50s by Saturday.

Morning lows will be in the 20s Tuesday and Wednesday.  Readings will drop into the teens Thursday and Friday morning.

The official high in Tulsa yesterday was 65 recorded at 4:19pm.

The normal daily average high is 48 and the low is 27.

Our daily records include a high of 77 from 1986 and a low of -3 from 1985.

You'll find me on Facebook and Twitter.

I'll be discussing the weather on numerous Radio Oklahoma News Network affiliates across the state through the noon hour today.

Thanks for reading the Monday Morning Weather discussion and  blog.

Have a super great day!
