OKLAHOMA CITY -

He is a cop and he also plays one on TV. You can find veteran Oklahoma City police officer Master Sgt. Phil Paz on the silver screen when he is not patrolling metro streets.

Paz said he was joking around with his filmmaker son one day and performed an impromptu monologue for him. The son said the performance "wasn't bad," so Paz started taking acting lessons 24 months ago.

"I work in the patrol division. I'm in a black and white car every single day," Paz said.

Paz is now a part-time actor on top of his full-time police job. He has been with Oklahoma City Police for 23 years, the entire time in the patrol division.

"I love being a police officer, this was my dream job, it still is, has been for 23 years. It will always be my first love, but let's face it, there are other aspects of life," Paz explained.

Paz started pursing his other passion of acting in January 2012.

"I like to entertain, I like to be the center of attention, I like to tell stories," he said.

His most recent project aired Sunday on the Investigation Discovery channel. Paz played a homicide detective in the episode "High School Homicide" for the series "Unusual Suspects." He has played parts in movies like August Osage County, No Rest For The Wicked, Rudderless and a dozen other films.

Paz said he has not had anyone recognize him yet.

"No, I have not! Just the people I tell," he chuckled.

His acting gigs have taken him to LA, Austin, Dallas, Little Rock and all around Oklahoma City, where he gets an earful from his buddies.

"Bunch of cops together and they like to rag on each other. I hear ‘Hollywood' and just all kinds of stuff, but generally everyone is pretty good-natured about it and very supportive," Paz explained.

Next month, Paz is working on two different independent movies for the film festival circuit.
