Train Derailment Closes Tulsa Railroad Crossing

A minor train derailment just west of Lansing under a Highway 75 bridge closed at least one Tulsa railroad crossing for several hours early Thursday.

A minor train derailment just west of Lansing under a Highway 75 bridge closed at least one Tulsa railroad crossing for several hours early Thursday.

Authorities said four hopper cars of a freight train operated by the South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad jumped the tracks at about 12:45 a.m.

There were no reports of any injuries or spills caused by the derailment.

Railroad crews were called to the scene.  Railroad officials said the hopper cars were filled with cement material headed to Ash Grove in Chanute, Kansas.

The Peoria railroad crossing was reopened at about 5:30 a.m.

The South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad, based in Cherryvale, Kansas says the cause of the derailment remains under investigation

The railroad says a derailment crew is expected to have rail line reopened by Saturday.
