LOGAN COUNTY, Oklahoma -

The possible police impersonator situation Wednesday in Logan County has been solved.

The Sheriff's office sent out an alert Wednesday night, after a retired police chief from the area reported seeing a man in a red polo shirt driving an unmarked tan Chrysler 300 pulling two other vehicles over.

The alert went out because no other jurisdiction in the area said the guy in the red polo worked for them. Wednesday night around 10 p.m., authorities in New Kirk reported that the mysterious man driving the Chrysler 300 was actually a task force drug investigator for Kay County who was passing through.

Logan County Sheriff Chief Deputy Richard Stephens says although other law enforcement officers from other jurisdictions normally check in if they plan to take police action in the area, in this case, no harm no foul.

"They're police officers just like we are, and they were traveling to and from a duty assignment and had an emergency they had to deal with, and that is certainly within their rights."

Kay County District 8 District Attorney Brian Hermanson says his investigator "wishes he had checked in," but he was responding to two different traffic emergencies, and "will not be disciplined."
