DEL CITY, Oklahoma -

The couple behind an inspiring half-court shot at a Thunder game are praying for more good fortune.

In March of 2013, Heath Kufahl won $20,000 by making a half-court shot.

The story made national headlines when Heath shared that the money would go toward his wife's cancer treatment. Jenni Kufahl underwent several rounds of chemotherapy and a surgery. Doctors told her the cancerous tumors appeared to be gone, but another visit to the doctor months ago, revealed bad news.

"The surgeon shook his head and said it was like we never did the surgery. The tumors are back in the very same place," Jenni said.

In two weeks, the Kufahls head to M.D. Anderson in Houston for another surgery. It's one of their final options.

"What the lord has taught us is that he has a purpose for this cancer and we don't know what it is and we may not see it this side of heaven. But we know there's a reason," Jenni added.

"If the surgery works. I think 'can you believe all these things that have led us to that point,'" Heath said.

Heath Kufahl is a volleyball and basketball coach at Christian Heritage Academy. His basketball players have been wearing shooting jerseys that say "Pray for Jenni." The week of the surgery, their opponents plan to also wear the shirts.

Jenni could be in the hospital for up to 20 days.

"We are not going through this for nothing," Jenni said.
