TU Women Roll Past North Texas

Posted: Updated:

Four Tulsa players scored in double figures to lead Tulsa to a 79-63 win over North Texas on Wednesday night at The Super Pit in Denton, Texas. TU moved to 10-7 on the season and 4-2 in Conference USA, while UNT fell to 8-12 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Kadan Brady hit a career-high 19 points to lead all scorers, while Ashley Clark added 15, Mariah Turner scored 14 and Kelsee Grovey tallied 13 points. Liesl Spoerl and Stevi Parker each added eight points, Spoerl had a team-best nine rebounds and Turner had seven boards.

"I think the only way you beat teams is to have balanced scoring like that," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "Kadan led us early on and all the other players stepped up too. We had six players right there in the double figure area and that lets you score a lot of points and doesn't allow opponents to focus on just one person."

Tulsa had a 7-6 lead in steals and a 36-32 advantage in rebounds over the Mean Green.

The Golden Hurricane scored 32 points in the paint, 19 second-chance points and 17 points off turnovers.

TU shot 46-percent from the field, 37-percent from three-point range and 64-percent from the charity strip in the contest, while UNT was 43-percent from the field, just 21-percent from behind the arc and 61-percent from the free throw line.

The first half was tightly contested as there were 10 lead changes and seven tied scores, but TU took a 36-32 lead into the break. Tulsa climbed to a first-half high of seven points (36-29) with 1:39 left in the half, but Janis Peterson hit a three-pointer 14 seconds later for the halftime score.

The Golden Hurricane hit 55-percent of their shots in the first frame, including 50-percent from three-point range, but struggled at the charity stripe, making just 3-of-8 attempts for 37-percent. The Mean Green shot 41-percent from the field, 26-percent from behind the arc and 66-percent from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.

Tulsa climbed to a game-high 18-point advantage with 54-seconds remaining in the contest, but Eboniey Jeter hit her only bucket of the game to make the final 16-point victory for TU.

The Mean Green was led by Alexis Hyder with 14 points, while Briesha Wynn had 13 and Acheil Tac scored 12. Hyder pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and had two steals.
