OKLAHOMA CITY -

President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster in Oklahoma stemming from a severe winter storm in early December.

Obama ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts for the storm.  Federal funding will be available on a cost-sharing basis for facility repair work in four counties: Choctaw, LeFlore, McCurtain and Pushmataha.

Federal funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures across the state.

FEMA says additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state.

The storm knocked out power to thousands of residents in southeastern Oklahoma.

Governor Mary Fallin's Office says according to preliminary damage assessments, the storm produced an estimated $6.5 million in infrastructure damage and response costs.
