MOORE, Oklahoma -- News 9 Storm Trackers Hank and Patty Brown have kept viewers safe during severe weather for 16 years. When their own family was in danger, their mission took a drastic turn.

On May 20, 2013, they started out chasing a storm near Blanchard. When they realized a much greater tornado was aiming for their hometown of Moore, reality sunk in. The tornado was headed for both of their parents' homes.

"At that moment things kind of transitioned for us. No longer were we the chaser. We were a viewer making decisions," said Hank.

They rushed to the Moore neighborhood they grew up in, searching for their family members. What they found was terrifying.

The Browns take me back to the empty lot where Hank's parents used to call home.
