GOWEN, Oklahoma -

More than two dozen animals are rescued from a condemned home of hoarders near McAlester. The animals were severely malnourished and rescuers say they may have been living in deplorable conditions for quite some time.

Skeletal remains and carcasses of dogs were even found. Up until two weeks ago a couple had actually been living in the home with the animals. The OK Save a Dog Society says the home itself is unlivable.

Sunshine Bush says the ceiling and sections of the floor were caving in and it seemed the animals were left to fend for themselves.

"Feces all over the place, a typical hoarder-type situation" said Bush.

There were literally animals everywhere. Dogs were underneath the home, two puppies were found in rabbit-type hutch cages inside the house. There were also geese and rabbits found inside.

"It's not my first time to go into a home like this. It's not even the worst I've ever been in," said Bush. "But, it's just one of those things where you just shake your head."

Bush is part of non-profit organization OK Save a Dog out of Prague, Okla. Her organization has been rescuing animals since 2009 with the hope of finding them a loving home. She says they were the first and only organization to respond to an SOS email to rescue animals at the home.

"It breaks your heart when you first go in, and then especially seeing the conditions," said Bush.

Bush says the couple, who lived in the house just outside of the city of McAlester, in Gowen, Okla., were taken by Adult Protective Services for mental evaluation.

"They will never be allowed to own animals again, even though no charges have been filed," said Bush.

Twenty-seven animals were taken off the property by OK Save a Dog. All dogs will be vaccinated, spayed, neutered, and dewormed and made sure they're free of any fleas, ticks, or any other parasites before they're put up for adoption.
