TULSA, Oklahoma -

An eight-inch water main break in west Tulsa forced a repair crew to narrow a busy street to one lane in each direction Friday.

The water caused the pavement to collapse. City crews say they expect to repair the line by Friday evening but the pavement repair will take longer.

"Traffic probably needs to try and use alternate routes here for the next seven to ten days," said Rick Caruthers, City of Tulsa.

"If they have to come through this area, remember we've got people working. Slow down for the safety of themselves and our workers."

There's also a thick layer of mud and sand in parts of the road.

A City of Tulsa water department crew says the break was discovered at 33rd West Avenue and Charles Page Boulevard at about 9 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say the break has impacted water service to several nearby businesses.
