Edmond Memorial Coach Is Finalist For USA TODAY Award

Edmond Memorial boys basketball coach Shane Cowherd is one of ten finalists for USA TODAY's Best High School Boys Basketball Coach of 2014.

Edmond Memorial head coach Shane Cowherd is one of ten finalists for USA TODAY's Best High School Boys Basketball Coach 2014 award and he could win a $2,000 prize for the Bulldogs. Cowherd advanced from Region 5 which included Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

The contest is based on fan voting, which ends at 2 p.m. CT Feb. 7. To add your vote to the tally, click here.

Cowherd's Bulldogs, the defending state champs, are 12-1 and ranked No. 5 in Class 6A. Memorial takes on Westmoore at home on Friday night and will face No. 3 Midwest City on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Both games tip at 7:30 p.m.

Joining Cowherd as finalists are Frank Ostanik of Monroe Catholic (Fairbanks, Alaska), I.J. Pinkham of Boothbay (Boothbay Harbor, Maine), Brendan O'Connell of Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, Md.), Jack Doss of J.O. Johnson (Huntsville, Ala.), Dan Fleming of LaSalle (Cincinnati), Danny Fletcher of Rosepine (Rosepine, La.) and Doug Robison of Billings West (Billings, Mont.). John Mirabello of Northwest Catholic (Hartford, Conn.) and Joe Fenlon of Tampa Prep (Tampa, Fla.) are the two wild card entrants who received the highest number of votes nationally without winning their region.
