Central Oklahoma concentrated on defense Wednesday on the first day high school players could sign a national letter-of-intent.
The Bronchos added 23 prep standouts, with 13 of those defenders. UCO inked 18 Oklahoma schoolboy stars along with four from Texas and one from Arkansas in addition to releasing the names of four mid-semester transfers who all play defense.
"We're excited about the student-athletes that we were able to add to the Broncho family today and those we added at the break," third-year head coach Nick Bobeck said. "The group as a whole is very deep and we were able to meet all of our needs with some wiggle room for a couple late signees.
"The overall goal in recruiting is to better your team or organization by adding individuals that fit both schematically and socially. We have an outstanding group of young football players already on campus that will become even stronger with the addition of these student-athletes.
"With every recruiting class we want to get bigger, more physical and more athletic," Bobeck continued. "I have no doubt that we were able to do that today and can't wait to get them all on campus."
The class of 23 high school signees was highlighted by five Oklahoma Coaches Association All-Staters – running back Lawrence Evitt of Wagoner, linebacker Johnny Jones of Douglass, quarterback Colton Lindsey of Christian Heritage Academy, offensive lineman David Seagle of Cascia Hall and defensive lineman Skyler Wood of Nowata.
