OKLAHOMA CITY -

With several area school districts planning to call off school again Friday, police agencies are warning young people to stay off what may look like frozen ponds and lakes.

OHP Marine Enforcement Trooper Danny Proctor says it takes two weeks of below-freezing temperatures to form sheets of ice that are thick enough to walk on. He urges parents to warn their kids to fight the urge.

"We're right in an apartment complex right now. Kids may think it's cool to go out on the ice and yes they may be able to. But eventually they're going to get out there and fall through."

Proctor says if you see someone go through the ice, do not go out after them. Call 911 and try to throw them a line.
