7 Injured, 3 Critical After Four-Car Crash In Norman

Three people are in critical condition after a four-car crash on Highway 9 in Norman, Sunday afternoon.

According to the Norman Police Department, a Dodge Ram pickup was heading westbound on highway 9, around 3:40 p.m., when the driver went left of center for an unknown reason and collided head-on with an eastbound Pontiac Grand Prix and a Suzuki Grand Villa Mini Van, also heading east.

A Chevy pickup heading eastbound also suffered severe damage by debris from the initial crash. An official cause of the crash has not been released, but police believe that the driver of the Dodge was likely impaired.

Seven people in all were injured in the crash, three critically. The other four were treated and released. Police have not identified any of the victims pending notifications of their families.

Highway 9 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the collision was investigated and crews worked to clear the scene.

Along with the Norman Police Department, the Norman Fire Department, EMSStat, Cleveland County Sherriff's Department, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) responded to the scene to provide assistance.

The crash is under investigation by the Norman/OUPD Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team (CIRT).
