Six Earthquakes Rumble Logan County

Six earthquakes rumbled Logan County late Sunday night and Monday morning, about a week after a 4.1 magnitude temblor caused minor damage at the county jail in Guthrie.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. The USGS initially estimated the earthquake as a 4.2 magnitude, but it was later downgraded to a 3.8 magnitude.

The earthquake was centered about seven miles south-southwest of Guthrie.

Another earthquake with a 2.9 magnitude was recorded about 30 minutes later, centered about five miles south of Guthrie. It was followed shortly by a third earthquake with a 3.0 magnitude, centered six miles south of Guthrie.

At about 2 a.m. Monday, another 2.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded about seven miles north, northwest of Edmond. And again, just before 7 a.m. Monday, a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck seven miles south of Guthrie.

The latest one, an earthquake with a 3.0 magnitude, was recorded at 8:19 a.m. Its epicenter was located just a mile south, southwest of Guthrie.

No damage has been reported.

On Feb. 8, an earthquake struck near Langston and caused several cracks in the walls at the Logan County jail.
