A source close to the Oklahoma State athletics department has confirmed with News 9 that OSU has self-reported 16 NCAA violations across 10 sports from Sept. 2012 through Dec. 2013.
All 16 infractions are minor secondary violations. Football self-reported the most with five; all five from the football program involve recruiting.
In fact, 14 of the 16 involve impermissible contact with prospective student athletes in some form or fashion.
The other programs that committed violations – and the number – were: equestrian (2), softball (2), women's basketball (1), women's cross country and track (1), men's golf (1), women's golf (1), women's tennis (1), soccer (1) and wrestling (1).
The infractions from soccer, men's golf, and one each from equestrian and softball were deemed so minor that there will be no self-imposed punishments outside of the initial reporting of the violations.
Five of the self-imposed penalties across several sports, and arguably the most severe of the punishments, are two-week bans with contacting specific recruits.
We will continue to look into the reports of these minor violations and update with more specific details.
