TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma Forestry Service urges Oklahomans to avoid outdoor burning the rest of this week due to the dry, windy conditions in the state.

Oklahoma State Forester George Geissler says the state did get some moisture thanks to snowfall, but says warmer conditions have caused the state to dry out.

Twelve counties have put burn bans in place. The counties are Alfalfa, Blaine, Canadian, Creek, LeFlore, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Rogers, Wagoner, Grady, Jefferson and Tillman.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says a cold front will move into eastern Oklahoma Wednesday evening raising the chances for thunderstorms along the Kansas-Oklahoma state line.

After the storms move through, Crone says winds will increase to 20 to 40 mph on Thursday.

Low humidity combined with gusty winds means fires can ignite easily and will spread quickly.
