The string of recent earthquakes around central Oklahoma is taking a mental toll on residents.

Deb Stanaland's family lives in Southern Logan County, between Guthrie and Edmond. She says the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) has recorded dozens of small quakes around her neighborhood since last Friday. Stanaland says her family is finding it hard to sleep.

"Even if you go back to sleep, you don't sleep sound because you know it's going to happen again," Stanaland said.

On Monday, the OGS released a position paper that says since 2009 earthquake activity in Oklahoma has been 40 times higher than it was the previous 30 years.

It goes on to say, "The OGS has not ruled out that some earthquakes may have a relationship to oil and gas activities such as water disposal/injection, and examining these issues remains a major focus of ongoing research."
