Tulsans Take Plunge To Raise Money For Special Olympics

What was supposed to be a polar plunge -- ended up more like a dip into a Jacuzzi.

More than 150 people got down to their swimsuits and jumped into the waters at the annual Polar Plunge charity event benefiting the Special Olympics of Oklahoma.

Usually this time of year, the water temperatures would be in the 20s but today it reached almost 60 degrees, which helped with turnout.

"It really warms your heart because if you ever see these athletes participate in Special Olympics, you know it changes your life forever and you want to help." Tulsa Police Sgt. Clay Ballenger said.

"So all these people, thousands of volunteers around the state and hundreds here today are just do it for the athletes."

Organizers report thousands of dollars were raised through the event for the Special Olympians of Oklahoma.
