Authorities have captured a man accused of murdering an inmate and possible key witness in a federal drug trial.

The last time any law enforcement had contact with Matthew Jackson is when he was released from the Midwest City jail on February 19, but the battery had died on his ankle monitor so it was no longer working.

Jackson was doing time in the Grady County jail on federal charges when prosecutors said he was involved in the murder of Anthony Mollman, an accused crime boss and potential government witness.

Because Jackson was only charged as a material witness in that case, he was given an ankle monitor and released from jail.

"I've talked with the company that handles his ankle monitor," said Grady County Sheriff Jim Weir. "He's come in, checked in as he was supposed to, did everything he was supposed to this past year."

But then earlier this month, Jackson was taken to the Midwest City jail after police said he was caught shoplifting. While he was in there, he was unable to charge the battery on his ankle monitor, and the monitoring company said they weren't notified before he was released so they could give him a working monitor.

"He is on the run, he knows his battery is dead, he knows something is going on because he's not coming in and doing what he's supposed to do with that ankle monitor," Sheriff Weir said.

Sheriff Weir said he doesn't believe Jackson is dangerous. But Jackson's ex-wife, and the mother of his son said he is, and she's scared he's coming after her in California.

"I think he is coming to get me, because I think he thinks if he can't have Tyler then why not take me out so his mother can potentially fight my husband and get custody," Amber Lund said.

Tuesday night, News 9 learned that Jackson has been taken into custody. Details of his capture are not available at this time.

The deputy chief in Midwest city said there was no hold on Jackson. But the head of that ankle monitoring company said they called the jail and asked to be notified before Jackson was released.

Jackson was also in jail and missed a court appearance, so there was also now a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear.
