ORU Baseball Falls To Missouri State

Four Oral Roberts University baseball players recorded multiple hits on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Missouri State Bears topped the Golden Eagles 3-2 in ten innings.

ORU fell to 1-6 on the season, while the Bears improved to 6-2.

Brandon Healy had the big hit in the game for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the fifth with a double into the gap in right center to score Austen Colt and Emmanuel Forcier, to giving the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Healy finished with two hits, as did Matt Brandy, Jose Trevino and Joey Migliaccio. Trevino snapped a three-game hitless streak, tying his longest hitless span as a Golden Eagle.

Pepe Gomez took the ball to start the game for the Golden Eagles. He threw five innings with three hits and allowed a pair of runs. Despite pitching well in 1.2 innings, Colin Hightower (0-1) took the loss for the Golden Eagles.

Matheny led the Bears with three hit of their five hits, while Cheray and Fultz added singles. Bryan Young (2-0) earned the win in 2.1 innings with two strikeouts, and Adam Anawalt pitched the tenth inning to earn his third save of the season.

MSU's five hits were the fewest allowed by the ORU pitching staff this season.

Gomez allowed a leadoff double in the top of the sixth to Tate Matheny who scored on a single by Eric Cheray. Two batters later, with Kyle Stout on the mound in relief for the Golden Eagles, Dylan Becker scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Fultz to tie the game at two.

Stout entered in the top of the sixth inning following Cheray's single and pitched 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. In 4.1 innings of work this season, Stout hasn't allowed a hit and has struck out five batters.

In the top of the tenth, Patrick Drake hit the second double to lead off an inning for the Bears, driving it off the right field wall. After moving to third on a Joey Hawkins sacrifice, Drake scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

ORU had its chances late in the ball game with runners in scoring position when the inning ended in three of the last four innings. The Golden Eagles left a total of nine runners on base.

ORU will look to snap its current four-game skid on Friday as they host Harvard at 3 p.m. for the first of a four game series. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting a noon on Saturday, with the fourth game scheduled for noon on Sunday.
