Tulsa Falls In The Big Easy

The Tulane Green Wave held on for 65-61 win over Tulsa on Wednesday night at Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, La. The Golden Hurricane fell to 11-14 on the season and 5-9 in Conference USA, while the Green Wave moved to 20-7 overall and 11-3 in the league.

Kadan Brady had a team-leading 15 points, five rebounds and two steals, and Mariah Turner added 10 points and four boards. Autura Campbell scored a career-high seven points, while Ashley Clark, Kelsee Grovey and Erika Lane all posted six points.

Tulsa had 41 points off the bench, 32 points in the paint and 19 points off turnovers, compared to Tulane's 22 points in the paint and nine pointes off the bench.

Tulane scored the first eight points of the contest, including four by Adesuwa Ebomwonyi, in the first two minutes off the clock, but Erika Lane put the Golden Hurricane on the board as she hit a three-pointer and Rickae Jinks recorded a layup to cut the lead to three at 16:23. The Green Wave went on another 8-0 run for an 11-point advantage at the 13:18 mark, but Tulsa inched back to trail by just two (23-21) with 6:54 remaining in the half. Tulane took a 28-25 advantage into the break.

Tulsa shot 40 percent from the field, 40 percent from behind the arc and just 33 percent (1-of-3) from the charity stripe, while Tulane was 37 percent from the field, 20 percent from three-point range and 72 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line in the first frame.

The Green Wave started the second half with a 7-0 run for a 10-point lead (35-25), but the Hurricane went on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to three (39-36) at the 14:12 mark. Tulane hit the next five points for an eight-point advantage, but Tulsa fought back and took a 46-45 lead with 9:11 left to play.

Jamie Kaplan hit a 3-pointer to give Tulane a two-point lead, but Turner scored a layup to tie the game at 48-all with 8:28 to play. Kaplan then hit a layup to give the Green Wave the advantage and although they never got more than a two-bucket lead, they never relinquished it and held on for the four-point victory.

Tulsa shot 43 percent from the field, 31 percent from behind the arc and just 40 percent from the free throw line, while Tulane was 42 percent from the field, 26 percent from 3-point range and 66 percent from the charity stripe.

Tulane had a 38-31 lead in rebounds and a 4-0 advantage in blocks, while Tulsa had a 7-5 lead in steals and a 16-13 advantage in assists. Both teams had 13 turnovers.

The Green Wave was led by Jamie Kaplan with 17 points, while Danielle Blagg had 13 points, and Adesuwa Ebomwonyi added 12 points and a team-best nine boards.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday against East Carolina. Game time is set for 4 p.m. CT at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.
