The TU softball team is off to a good start, 13-2 and ranked in the top 25. Part of the reason is pitching. After 15 games, the team ERA is 1.05. The staff includes Caitlin Sill, Bailey Ervin and is led by their ace, Aimee Creger.

"Every time she takes the circle, the whole team knows, ‘Hey, we can beat anybody in the country'" coach John Bargfeldt said.

Creger has 70 strikeouts this season. She says hard work in the offseason paid off, and a stint with the USA Softball team this past summer also helped out.

"The coach taught me a new pitch, so I've been working on that a lot," Creger said.

That new pitch is the cutter, along with a good rise ball.

"It's really nice for me being able to throw different pitches than I have in the past," Creger said. "Normally I go up all the time, so normally when I do have an off speed pitch and a cutter that goes out. It's a lot nicer for me.

"Coach Jay, being a pitcher, he helped me out even more and helping other pitches and fixing them and know where to put them in the strike zone."

TU hosts their first home game of the season on Friday in the Tulsa invitational. TU has a doubleheader against Creighton Friday at 1 p.m. and then faces Northwestern State at noon Saturday.
