OKC Businesses Take Hit Due To Winter Weather

When winter weather hits, cancellations usually follow. Mostly schools and school officials have to make that choice. And sometimes, even businesses must close the doors.

"The weather was just so bad and kept getting worse," said Lauren Meyer, general manager at S&B Burgers.

Just like many others Lauren Meyer is sizzling about these winter conditions.

"It was a little brutal to say the least," she said.

But as general manager of S&B Burgers, the ice, snow and thunder sleet costs Meyer more than just extra drive time.

"The main thing I care about is the safety of the staff," Meyer said.

So due to some power outages and only having partial power throughout the whole building along with the potential driving dangers for employees and customers, Meyer was forced to shut down Saturday afternoon and remain closed throughout Sunday.

"Everybody was really cool about it. They were very understanding," Meyer said. "We never want to close our doors to anyone, it's hard, but we'll make due."

The hardest part is that the decision could cost S&B $8,000 to $10,000 in profit.

"We have a full restaurant right now and continue to push this product out," Meyer said.

Meyer said they decided to close about four Saturday afternoon, which means the lights were off for about a total of 15 and a half hours.
