OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Bricktown Association is stepping up safety measures after a deadly shooting outside a nightclub over the weekend.

Oklahoma City police said a man fired a gun into the crowd, killing one man.

"Everybody will step up security after an incident like this, but it is an extremely safe place as it always has been," said Bricktown Association District Manager Mallory O'Neill. "This just was a very isolated event."

Witnesses said there was a small group of people in line outside club Social when they heard about four shots fired from near the canal. People ducked down and everyone got up, except for Zachary Bowie who died just 10 days after his 30th birthday. He leaves behind a young son.

"I mean it was just crazy, something you don't really expect to see walking outside of your bar or your business," said Coyote Ugly Saloon General Manager Amber Almond-Fawcett.

Police said Social's security guards were the shooter's target after he and his girlfriend were kicked out of the club.

"He threatened to come back and shoot them and then came back this way and that's when we heard the gunshots," Almond-Fawcett said.

Social is the same location where four years ago, when it was the Rok Bar, Air Force Veteran Daniel Maxedon was beat up and later died from injuries at 25-years-old. His attackers were never caught.

Other fights and a past shooting at Thunder Alley have some questioning measures to keep Bricktown safe.

"There are 16 and 18 officers on the weekends." said O'Neill. "Along with that, we have canal security that the association hires to patrol the canal."

"We'll educate our business owners, property owners on anything that we can coming from something like this so that it doesn't happen again."

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the club and nearby businesses. O'Neill said the Bricktown Association will move up its next meeting time from April to this month to address late-night crowd safety

Investigators have not yet identified the suspect. If you have information, call police at 297-1200.
