Oklahoma Forestry Services is sponsoring seedling sales in more than 20 communities across the state this month.

The sales give Oklahomans the convenience of purchasing seedlings close to home and a chance to talk with area foresters about tree planting and other land management issues.

The Oklahoma Forestry Services nursery grows more than 30 types of trees and shrubs from local seed sources.

"We offer conservation seedlings that have been grown in our state nursery south of Norman," said State Forester George Geissler.

"These trees have been grown from local seed sources and are specifically designed to thrive in Oklahoma."

New species this year are Chittamwood, Black Hickory and Indian Currant. Millions of native trees and shrubs produced at the nursery are shipped to all corners of the state each year.

Seedlings are bare-root, one or two years old and 10 to 30 inches tall. They are sold in bundles of 50 per species. Hardwood "super cells" must be purchased in blocks of 25 per species.
