A Bristow man died at a Sapulpa hospital following an alcohol-related crash on Highway 66 in Creek County late Wednesday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Arlie Cates, 49, was eastbound on Highway 66 in a 1979 GMC pickup when it went off the road just west of West 271st Street at 11:49 p.m.

The OHP said Cates over-corrected which caused the pickup to cross the highway and hit a guardrail and roll a number of times.

Cates and his passenger, David VanOrsdol, 49, also of Bristow were thrown from the pickup. Troopers said the pickup came to rest on top of Cates.

A private vehicle took VanOrsdol to a Bristow hospital but the OHP said he was later transferred to a Tulsa hospital with a back injury.

The OHP said neither man was using a seat belt at the time of the crash.
