A Tulsa amber alert was issued and canceled, all within an hour on Monday. A 4-year-old girl was missing is back with her mother, and police arrested the suspect for kidnapping.

Javonta Williams said he was told to take the girl and leave the apartment and did just that, taking her to his grandmother's house. 30 minutes later, he saw his picture on the news, called police, gave them his grandmother's address and waited with the girl until police arrived.

Seeing 4-year-old Ky'riana Richards smiling and waving to News On 6 cameras was exactly what everyone hoped for after the Tulsa Police Department issued an amber alert for her around 11:30 Monday morning.

"The child is safe, back with her mom. We're glad it ended the way it ended," said Tulsa Police Officer, Leland Ashley.

It began at the Bradford apartments, where Richards and her mom had been staying with a cousin and her husband. At the time, the mother was in the process of moving and wasn't' there, but Williams, her boyfriend, was. The cousin told police Williams was armed and took the girl by force, prompting an Amber Alert.

"We understand the suspect had a knife and indicated he would harm the child if mom didn't give him a call," Ashley said.

Williams said the cousin and her husband told him to take his stuff, and the little girl, and get out. So he walked to his grandmother's house about a block away then called police when he saw himself on the news.

"She was at my grandma's house eating cereal. Her mom was tripping, that's how come she wasn't there. Her own family said get her out of the house. They said they didn't want her around the house. We went down the street to my grandma's," Williams said.

Police said it's good to see the Amber Alert system work the way it's designed, to get the information out quickly and find the child safe and sound.

"On something like this, it's all hands on deck. We had the police helicopter up, officers doing grid searches, basically, they're driving every block," Ashley said.

Records show Williams served four years in prison for second-degree burglary. He was released last October.
