BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -

Students in Broken Arrow will be going to school longer since the district only budgeted for four snow days but actually took seven.

On Monday, board members voted to add 15 minutes to the school day. The Board decided junior high and high schoolers will go from 8 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Elementary students will be in class from 8:55 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

The snow and ice this year hit the district hard and it's been working to figure out to the best way to make up missed class time. Superintendent Jarod Mendenhall said after much discussion, Broken Arrow decided adding 15 minutes on the days starting after Spring Break was the best option.

Looking ahead to next school year, administrators have already approved building in a certain amount of snow days so parents and students can make plans. And they're just crossing their fingers that will be enough.

"We built in five days and probably not enough. Last two years no snow days and year before that we had ten so it's really hard to predict the right thing to do and how many says so hopefully we hit five days and that will work. Anytime you don't have to go in June people are happy cause when you go into June that's when you get backlash," Mendenhall said.

The district worked with teachers, and came up with this together. The superintendent says most students won't even notice the difference.
