TULSA, Oklahoma -

With the threat of grass and brush fires, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon Tuesday to 10 p.m. for ten eastern Oklahoma counties.

The list includes Craig, Creek, Nowata, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa and Washington counties.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says spring-like weather conditions, low humidities and gusty southerly winds ahead of a cold front prompted the warning.

He says any grass or brush fires which start could have the potential to spread rapidly thanks to those strong winds.

Currently the only county in eastern Oklahoma under a burn ban is Wagoner County.

Crone says as the front gets closer to eastern Oklahoma Tuesday evening, the NWS has posted a wind advisory for 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. Wednesday for those ten counties listed above plus Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Ottawa and Wagoner counties. He says winds will shift Tuesday evening to the northwest with gusts of 50 mph possible overnight.

The cold front will also bring a slight chance for showers as it pushes across the state in Missouri and Arkansas. weather page
