Dressed in shorts with no pads, the Oklahoma State football held its second practice of spring ball Tuesday at the Sherman E. Smith Training Facility. After the approximately two hour session, head coach Mike Gundy shared his thoughts:

On what makes a difference when the team practices with no pads:

"Our effort, team continuity, the tempo of the game, how we adjust to defensive schemes and to offensive schemes. I like our attitude. We've gotten quality work in, but we still have a way to go. We're getting some young players who have redshirted out there and trying to get them up to the speed of the game."

On if any young players have caught his attention:

"It's way too early. We're not even in pads. We're regulated on the number of practices we can be in pads. We're limited right now in that, so it's really hard to tell."

On the feedback he's getting from the assistant coaches on their respective position groups:

"They're working some young guys and seeing where they stand with those guys. It's new for Coach Connelly. For the coordinators – really Coach Spencer – there are so many new guys that they're looking at in certain positions to see where they can contribute and help us."

On if this is the best time to give players a chance at a different position:

"I think so. We do some of that, but for the most part, we have a good idea where our players are going to compete. We try to get them in those positions and improve them. We feel like the reps give them the best chance to improve in the spring and the summer and then get ready for the fall."

On quarterback Mason Rudolph now that he's seen him in a practice setting:

"He just looks like a young kid. He should be in high school. He seems to be doing okay. He's learning and things are moving really fast for him. His attitude and his effort are good. We should start to see some change in him in our third week, after practice 10, once he realizes what's going on and the speed of the game."

On the team's schedule for the rest of the week:

"We're off tomorrow and then we'll practice in pads on Thursday and Friday. We'll give them a break for their spring break. They're off for seven or eight days and then we'll get back to work."
