Seminole Police are warning of a phone scam that has targeted several people in the area.

Police say when potential victims answer their phones, a recording tells them there's something wrong with their bank or credit card account. They are instructed to punch their account number and pin number into their phone.

Seminole Police put a fraud alert warning residents of the scam on their new Facebook page Wednesday. That page is so new that alert is the first post on it … ever.

Lt. Jack Thompson just installed the police Facebook page Wednesday morning. By 9 p.m. Wednesday, almost 7,000 people had viewed that fraud alert.

Seminole Police Spokesman Lt. Branon Bowen says Facebook clearly is a great tool to reach people.

"I'm surprised and pleased," he said. "I'm surprised and very pleased."
