A suspected drunk driver struck a pedestrian after authorities say he made an illegal U-turn late Thursday night in Comanche County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the wreck at about 11:30 p.m. on Wolf Road, about four miles west of U.S. 277.

A 2011 GMC Sierra driven by 46-year-old Sammy Cooper of Fletcher, Oklahoma, was eastbound on Wolf Road when it made an illegal U-turn and struck a pedestrian, according to the OHP.

The pedestrian, later identified as 42-year-old Shane Melton of Fletcher, was transported to the Comanche County Memorial Hospital. He is said to be in fair condition.

Cooper and a passenger in his vehicle were not injured. However, according to the OHP collision report, troopers believe that Cooper was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
