SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma Baptist defeated Roosevelt (Ill.) 23-7 and 8-5 at Bison Field Thursday afternoon to set the baseball program record for best start to a season and longest win streak at 22 straight.

The Bison (22-0, 6-0 SAC) registered 26 hits in the first game of the doubleheader, both seven inning contests.

OBU scored two runs in the first inning courtesy of an RBI from Mason Ankeney to bring around Ridge Hoopii-Haslam and double from Ivan Vela to score Matt Page.

Vela finished 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and 2 runs scored after two doubles and a triple in the first game.

After allowing five runs in the top of the third, the Bison answered with five of their own in the home half of the inning.

OBU added three runs in the fourth, six in the fifth and seven in the sixth inning to push across 23 runs in all.

Garrett Gallacher hit a three-run home run and finished the first game 1-for-1. Seven different Bison hitters registered multiple RBI, and OBU hit 10 doubles for the game.

Frankie Wright picked up his first win of the season after pitching 2.0 innings, allowing one hit while striking out one.

The win in the first game set the record for the best start to a season and tied the longest win streak ever.

The second game was much closer than the first, and the Bison trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning.

Hoopii-Haslam hit his first home run of the season to lead off the third and pull the Bison down just two runs.

Rafael Villar hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Page later in the inning.

OBU opened up a lead in the bottom of the fifth, bringing five runs across the plate. Vela drove in pinch runner Frankie Wright in the sixth to end the scoring for the Bison.

Jinny Parra picked up the win in game two, improving to 3-0 on the year after 2.0 innings pitched, giving up two hits and one earned run while striking out two.

Andrew Millner picked up the save for the Bison, allowing two hits and striking out one in a scoreless seventh inning.

The Bison will host a doubleheader with Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Northwood (Texas) Friday, March 14 starting at 4 p.m.
