Pair Arrested For Drug Trafficking In Nowata County

Posted: Updated:

A man and woman are behind bars after deputies reportedly found tens of thousands of dollars in drugs in a vehicle, an arrest report says.

Megan Elizabeth Shipman, 23, of Broken Arrow, and Corey Shamon McKinney, 36, of Owasso, both were arrested for trafficking methamphetamine after being formally convicted of a felony, possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a tax stamp, acquiring proceeds from drug activity, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute (Alprazolam) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shipman, the driver of the vehicle, also was arrested on a complaint of driving without a license.

About 2 a.m. on Saturday, deputies said they noticed a vehicle traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone on U.S. Highway 169 near CR 25, so they performed a traffic stop. When they asked to search the vehicle and asked if there was anything illegal inside, Shipman stated there wasn't, the report says.

As a K9 officer searched the vehicle, Shipman and McKinney appeared nervous, the deputy said. The K9 officer pawed at both the driver's side door and the passenger side door, according to the report.

A search reportedly turned up a clear smoking device wrapped in toilet paper, a black box containing a crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine and a pill bottle with no label that contained 133 blue pills and five green pills.

The value of the meth recovered was about $30,000, according to deputies.

When inventory was taken during booking at the Nowata County jail, McKinney was found to be carrying $3,650.47 in cash, and Shipman had $2,500 in cash.

Both Shipman and McKinney were previously charged earlier this year with drug-related offenses.
