After the heartbreaking but inspiring two point overtime loss to number one Arkansas just before Christmas, the Golden Hurricane emerged in January of 1994 as confident and mostly unstoppable.

And in his 3rd season in charge head coach Tubby Smith was pushing all the right buttons.

18 Missouri valley conference games, 15 wins, a regular season championship, and a sweep of the postseason individual honors.

Northern Iowa pulled the upset in TU's 2nd game, and TU had to wait a week to find out its NCAA tournament fate.

The longest week ever turned into the longest selection show wait ever.

But the wait was worth it, as TU was the 62nd team called. The relief of getting in was coupled by the reality of a match up with UCLA, but after that long wait,TU would enjoy a short trip. The college basketball nation couldn't have predicted what was about to take place in the old Myriad in Oklahoma City.
