WASHITA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Authorities in Washita County believe they have found the body of a man who has been missing since Sunday, March 2.

According to the Washita County Sheriff's office, a body, found along a creek bank southwest of Bessie, Oklahoma, is believed to be that of Eugene Williams.

Authorities say Williams had wrecked his car on Saturday, March 1, and had walked to a home in the area. He reportedly left that home after the owners told him they were calling the Sheriff's department.

Williams called the Beckham County Sheriff's Office at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, saying some of its deputies were chasing him and he crashed while trying to get away. Williams had actually crashed near Bessie in Washita County, but did not realize it.

According to the Sheriff's office, Williams told Beckham County deputies that he had fallen into a canyon and stepped in about two feet of water. Williams also said he needed to hang up to crawl out of the canyon he was in.

Deputies say the body was found near the area of Williams' car and the house that Williams was last seen at.

The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification, since deputies did not find any identification at the scene, according to the Sheriff's office.

Washita County Sheriff's Office had been searching daily for Williams. Several other agencies assisted, including the Bessie Fire Department, Custer County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Office of the State Medical Examiner.
