TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa's 12 new fire cadets put their classroom training to the test. They're using a donated house, scheduled for demolition, to practice real-world scenarios.

The cadets got to break through walls and windows, practice ventilation, and try out the search and rescue techniques.

The smoke isn't real, but it helps the cadets understand the difficult conditions they'll be working in.

Assistant fire marshal Debra Bailey said this kind of training is invaluable.

"It's a great opportunity to have this type of home that you can actually go in and effectively do a search and rescue without having the emergency situation," Bailey said.

This is the seventh week of training for the cadets who graduate in June.
