A back injury, which occurred on March 13, has sidelined Oklahoma junior first baseman Lauren Chamberlain. According to the OU medical staff, the injury typically takes six weeks for recovery.

The injury has caused Chamberlain to miss the past six games after she had not missed a start in the first 148 contests of her Oklahoma career. Prior to the injury, Chamberlain was hitting .316 on the season with six home runs and 16 runs batted in. She was slugging .719 and getting on-base at a .567 clip.

After a slow start to the 2014 campaign in which she hit .171 with one home run through the first 14 contests, the two-time All-American and team captain was on a hot streak prior to her injury. In her last nine games, Chamberlain was batting .545 with nine extra-base hits, including five home runs.

The Sooners have gone 4-2 during Chamberlain's absence, including a two-game sweep of LSU this past weekend.

The Oklahoma softball team returns to action on Wednesday with a home game against North Texas at 6 p.m. That is followed by the start of Big 12 play next weekend at Iowa State.
