A plan to erect a privately funded monument of the U.S. Bill of Rights at the Oklahoma Capitol is one step closer to fruition.

The House States' Rights Committee voted 9-3 Tuesday for the bill by Enid Republican Sen. Patrick Anderson. The bill next goes to the full House for consideration.

Anderson says the bill is being pushed by an Arizona group dedicated to erecting monuments to the U.S. Bill of Rights at town squares and state Capitols across the country.

A Ten Commandments monument placed at the Oklahoma Capitol resulted in a lawsuit against the state and prompted a New York-based group of Satanists to have a monument of their own erected there.
