Authorities confirmed the body of a man sought by police Saturday night on the west bank of the Arkansas River was discovered on a sandbar the next morning.

A man having breakfast at the Blue Rose on Riverside Drive spotted what he thought might be body and alerted police.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene and recovered the body of a man in his 20s or 30s, according to Tulsa Police Sergeant Ted Umbarger.

Umbarger said that though the cause of death is pending, they do not suspect foul play.

Major Shannon Clark of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said the man crashed into a gate near the Westport Apartments after deputies tried to make a traffic stop. He took off on foot, leaving two women and a child in the wrecked car.

They were able to give authorities the man's name.

A helicopter and ground search failed to turn up the man Saturday night.

Sunday afternoon, police confirmed the body on the sandbar was the same man.
