Operation Safe Guard is in full swing in Cherokee County. Law enforcement agencies are hitting the streets searching for sex offenders who are breaking the law.

Agents from multiple law enforcement agencies are making sex offender compliance checks. If they violate any of the things on the list, they could be arrested.

With their guns drawn and bullet proof vests on, agents were ready to face whatever was on the other side of the doors.

District Attorney Brian Kuester, said, "It's important to the community, I can assure you that. And that's why these agencies are out here doing these compliance checks today."

After several minutes of being inside a mobile home south of Tahlequah, investigators came out with Danny Savage, wanted on an Oklahoma County arrest warrant. They said he's served time for lewd molestation and forcible sodomy and has failed to register as a sex offender.

Mike Moore, with the District 27 Drug Task Force, said, "I can't remember ever doing one where we didn't find something; they're not in compliance or we were actually able to arrest someone who did have arrest warrants."

Not every knock on the door ends with an arrest. In fact, most don't.

"We're making sure that the residence they live in is in an area they're allowed to live in. We're asking questions about their Internet usage, cell phones, stuff like that, to make sure they're in compliance with," Moore said.

A Drug Task Force is leading the sex offender roundup. It is responsible for Cherokee, Adair, Wagoner and Sequoyah Counties.

Right now, they're zeroing in on Cherokee County. Sheriff Deputies, Tahlequah Police, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, U.S. Marshals and District Attorney Investigators all join forces for the cause.

"It's really the only way it's going to work. With 130 offenders, trying to knock it out in two days, we just split up into teams. The teams will consist of officers from different agencies and we go do our thing," said Moore.

Kuester said, "It is incredible to see so many agencies coming together with just one thing in mind, and that one thing is public safety."

Agents will be back at it Wednesday morning in Cherokee County, then, later this month, they'll be in Wagoner, Adair and Sequoyah County.
