LEFLORE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

A 9-year-old boy has been shot dead by his tween brother near Panama, Oklahoma, according to LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan, our CBS affiliate in Fort Smith is reporting.

Joshua Lee Nun, was shot by his 12-year-old brother in the upper chest area around 1 p.m., according to Morgan.

The incident occurred on Buck Creek Road near Panama.

According to KFSM, the gun was being played with at the time of the incident, and the mother and other children were home at the time of the shooting.

"Kids woke up late and she didn't take them to school because they were running late," Morgan said.

Authorities are investigating how the child got the gun.
