Call it being in the right place at the right time. For a lifelong police officer, a trip to the drug store took quite a twist.

Tuesday night, Officer Steven Williams and his wife knew something wasn't right at a Broken Arrow Walgreens as soon as one customer in particular entered the store.

After decades with the Tulsa Police Department, Williams now regularly patrols the halls of Webster High School as an officer for Tulsa Public Schools.

Tuesday after work, while still in his uniform, he made a stop at the Walgreens in Broken Arrow. All was normal, until one customer in particular walked through the doors.

"She had on her oversized black hoodie with the hoodie pulled up. She had on a camo baseball cap and oversized real dark sunglasses on at 10:00 in evening," Williams said.

He said this woman walked right past him.

"She was still walking east through the store. I told the manager, I said, 'you need to find out where she's going cause if she is going to the pharmacy I need to know,'" Williams said.

He said he knew there was a problem as soon as he saw the pharmacists starting to place large bottles of pills in a bag. See that, the lifelong police officer made his move.

"I was gonna have to act whether she was armed or not. The fact that she had both hands on the bag gave me the opportunity to address her when didn't have anything in her hands," he said.

Williams pulled his gun and both he and his wife, also a cop, took the suspect to the ground and waited for Broken Arrow Police.

"God intervenes in your life for different reasons. Why he had us there, who knows," Williams said. "If she can get off the drugs and get life straightened out good for her."

Williams said he spoke with a number the employees and said they were thankful, because robberies at pharmacies are becoming pretty regular and there is a new level of safety pharmacists have to be concerned with.
