Neighbors Say Stretch Of Mustang Road Is Too Dangerous

Concern over the stretch of road where a deadly accident happened continues to grow among people who live nearby. Thursday night, 16-year-old Rachel Scarberry of Piedmont was killed in a collision. People who live near the crash site believe the road is too dangerous.

"There are no stop lights," said Pamela Kimbell. "There are no turn lanes where you can turn and give a little rest from passing traffic."

According to Oklahoma City police, there have been 68 accidents in the area. Investigators said 28 of those were injury accidents and two of them were deadly.

"When we first moved in, I think there was another fatality accident right across from the entrance," explained David Pruett. "Maybe 150 yards from where that one took place."

The posted speed limit is 55 mph, but Pruett told News 9 that cars go well over that speed causing him to worry as a dad.

"All these new housing additions are full of kids, and the buses deal with it every day trying to get in and out," said Pruett. "You can actually watch people fly by the school buses with their stop signs out."

These homeowners said the area has grown quickly, but the infrastructure has not kept up.

"These are subdivisions growing out here. It is no longer really a highway where you can do those kinds of highway speeds," said Kimbell. "It's just changing and it needs to be addressed."

Accident investigators were still working on determining a cause of Thursday's deadly crash. Police said it could take weeks to complete the report.
