The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office says a neighbor found a burned body Monday in a home in Gans which burned on March 25, 2014.

Sheriff Ron Lockhart said the early-morning fire destroyed the vacant home.

On Monday, a neighbor was rummaging through the home on KCS road in Gans when he found a body in a back bedroom, according to the sheriff.

Lockhart said his office, the Gans Police Department and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are investigating. He says the body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Tulsa for an autopsy.

Lockhart says deputies have learned there was a fight next door a few hours before the fire and a man involved hasn't been seen since. He says he will not release a name until the ME's office can make a positive ID and next of kin are notified.

Lockhart says the state Fire Marshal's Office is trying to determine the cause of the fire.
