A filthy home lands a Bethany father behind bars.

Bethany Police Detectives arrested Daniel Deffner on a child abuse complaint. On April 4, officers were called to the home near N.W. 30th and Rockwell to investigate concerns about a child's welfare in the home.

"From the outside of the house, you can almost imagine what the inside looked like," a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous expressed her concern on Thursday. "It is a sad situation."

The neighbor said Deffner's home is a sore spot for the neighborhood.

Bethany Police investigated it as a possible drug house, last year, and most recently, deemed the home hazardous for people and pets. In court papers, investigators indicated "the smell from the home was atrocious."

Officers arrested Deffner for child neglect when they found an 8-year-old boy living in the home with piles of dog feces, piles of clutter and trash, and no running water.

"We feel sorry for the kids that's been over there," remarked the neighbor.

During a search of the home, investigators also found guns, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

"I'm certainly glad this is going to be cleaned up and get it out of our neighborhood," said the anonymous neighbor.

Deffner is out of jail on a $18,500 bond. He could face child abuse, possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of firearm during commission of a felony charges.

The child is now in the custody of his mother.
