Yale Schools Closed Monday Due To Voluntary Boil Order

Posted: Updated:
The City of Yale issued a notice changing the boil order to voluntary status Sunday. The City of Yale issued a notice changing the boil order to voluntary status Sunday.

The City of Yale remains under a boil order after a water sample taken Friday, April 11 tested positive for E. coli. Follow up samples taken Saturday have come back negative, so the boil order is now considered voluntary, according to City Clerk Deanna Couch.

The public school system is closed Monday, also as a precaution, Couch said.

City officials believe the initial positive sample was caused by cross contamination, perhaps from a dirty sample bottle.

Couch said they are awaiting results from a third set of samples taken Sunday that are now at a Stillwater lab.

"There's a 24-hour turnaround for test results," Couch said. "They're pretty sure in believing it was a cross contamination."

Couch said the city and school system consulted with the Department of Environmental Quality. The school was told to check in with the health department about the safety of holding classes, and they were not able to reach anyone on Sunday.

It is her understanding that school will be held Tuesday.

The results of Sunday's samples will be posted on the city web site, their Facebook page and in locations around town.
