STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

Landry-Walker (Louisiana) point guard Tyree Griffin has signed to play basketball at Oklahoma State. Griffin chose OSU over Texas A&M and UTEP and is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.

"We are very excited about Tyree joining our basketball family," OSU coach Travis Ford said. "He is a dynamic point guard who affects the game on both ends of the court. He brings great toughness and a winning attitude. We are looking forward to him wearing the Cowboy uniform."

Griffin (5-foot-9, 165 pounds) was named the Large Schools Player of the Year by The Times-Picayune as a senior, as well as the top-rated player in the state of Louisiana according to's "Terrific 20".

"I felt like OSU was the right school for me," Griffin said. "When I went to Stillwater on my official visit, I saw that it is definitely a basketball town. I felt comfortable with Coach Ford and Coach (Butch) Pierre. He started recruiting me back in the summer, and I felt real comfortable with him. With Marcus Smart leaving (for the NBA), I think I can come in and help out right away."

Griffin averaged 17.2 points, six assists and 5.6 rebounds per game in leading the Chargin' Bucs to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association's Class 4A state championship with a 76-56 win over East Jefferson. He scored 15 points and finished with six assists and four rebounds in the title game after recording 25 points and six assists in the semifinals, and was named Most Outstanding Player of the state tournament.

"The main thing about him is he has all the intangibles to be a point guard, with tremendous will and tremendous drive," Landry-Walker coach Brian Gibson told The New Orleans Advocate in March. "He has tremendous handles, and he is a wonderful rebounder. He is just a complete guard. His size is misleading. He plays much better than his size is. He is going to play extremely hard because Coach Ford gave him an opportunity when a lot of schools didn't. Tyree plays with a chip on his shoulder."

Griffin announced his decision to join Oklahoma State on Tuesday night via Twitter.

Stevie Clark's dismissal made room for another recruit in the 2014 class, specifically for a point guard. Griffin joins small forward Joe Burton, shooting guard Jared Terrell, center Mitch Solomon and juco point guard Jeff Newberry in the Cowboys' 2014 class.
