TU Women's Basketball Adds Transfers

Posted: Updated:

The TU women's basketball team added Teanna Reid and Te'era Williams to the 2014-15 roster, it was announced today by coach Matilda Mossman. Both Reid and Williams are transfers from Butler Community College.

The duo led BCC to a 34-3 overall record, a perfect 12-0 mark in the Jayhawk East Conference for the regular season title, a Region VI Tournament Championship and an NJCAA National Championship quarterfinal appearance. This was Butler's first conference title since 1995, the first Region VI championship game appearance since 1996 and the first-ever national tournament appearance.

"Both of these players have competed at a very high level as evidenced by their Elite Eight run at the NJCAA National Tournament this year," Mossman said. "They bring athleticism and toughness to their respective positions, and they both play with great energy and passion."

Reid, who will transfer in as a sophomore, is a guard from Oklahoma City. She averaged 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, posted 160 assists and 87 steals, and started in 30 of 34 contests last season. Reid shot 36-percent from the field, including 28-percent from three-point range, and was 76-percent at the charity stripe.

Reid ranked fourth in assists, fifth in steals, and sixth in free throw percentage and assist/turnover ratio (1.83) in NJCAA Region VI.

Reid played for Millwood High School and was an all-conference and all-state first-team selection.

"Teanna is an athletic point guard who is really good in the open floor, can get to the rim, or hit the open shot," Mossman said. "She has great court vision, which allows her to find the open person for the best possible shot. Additionally, she allows us the opportunity to have an on-ball defender the entire length of the floor."

Williams, who will transfer in as a junior, is a forward from Oklahoma City. She posted 19.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, recorded 67 steals, 62 assists and 34 blocks, and started in 35 of 36 games last year. Williams shot 58-percent from the field and 79-percent from the free throw line.

In NJCAA Region VI, Williams ranked first in field goal percentage, third in total rebounds, fourth in scoring, fifth in free throw percentage and ninth in blocks. For her efforts, Williams was selected as a second-team NJCAA All-American.

During her freshman season, Williams played for Texas Southern where she averaged 13.2 points, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game, and was named as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year. Previously she played at Douglass High School where she was a four-year letterwinner in basketball and track, and was a member of the state championship 4x100-Meters, 4x200-Meters and 4x400-Meters relay teams.

"In addition to her strength and athleticism, Te'era brings the experience of playing in the SWAC (Texas Southern) and at the junior college level," Mossman said. "She is physically gifted as represented by her rebounding average over the course of last year. Her ability to get to the rim often results in her getting to the free throw line where she shoots a very high percentage."

"Our women's basketball program got significantly better today. When you add their addition to the two we signed in November, you can't help but get excited about the future of our program. We can't wait to get all four of them on campus and start working."
